How Reststop handles Australian travel-facility information
The current public directory contains 29,773 locations across every Australian state and territory. Missing or uncertain information is not presented as a confirmed fact.
Current national coverage
The directory currently includes 25,696 locations with a toilet listed, 15,326 with an accessible toilet listed, 2,029 with a shower listed and 1,365 with a dump point listed. The newest source or record date represented in the current public directory is 21 July 2026. These counts describe the available source information, not a physical inspection of every location.
Confirmed and unknown information
A blank field is treated as unknown. It is not converted into a negative answer. Facilities are shown only when the available record supports them.
- Water is not called drinking water unless that status is supported.
- Overnight permission is not inferred from the presence of parking or a rest area.
- Fees, permits, accessibility and closure information are shown only when available.
Sources and provenance
Location pages identify the available source authority and show a source update date where one is supplied. Reststop combines government, authoritative and open-data records, while preserving conservative wording where different sources do not establish the same fact.
Update dates are not inspections
A source update or Reststop record refresh date is not described as a physical verification date. Facilities, gates, roads and access conditions can change after a source is published.
Corrections and accountability
Every location page includes a visible correction action. Reports can identify closures, missing facilities, incorrect coordinates or other problems and must enter a moderation workflow before public information changes.
Search-engine publication quality
Not every record, map view or filter combination becomes a search-engine landing page. Closed, duplicate, weak and low-information pages remain usable where appropriate but are withheld from indexing until they provide distinct public value.
